FABRIX
makes Ambler “adaptable to change”
When long established New Zealand garment
manufacturer Ambler & Co made the
decision five years ago to upgrade its
management software system, the key
requirement was for one that was :adaptable
to change”.
Finance manager Gordon Harper says that
while the Ambler team was not unhappy
with the system it had been using throughout
the previous years, the company’s
requirements were fast outstripping
its initial requirements. As the company
expanded its presence in the local and
export markets so, too, did its requirements
for improved efficiencies.
Ambler, which has a background of over
80 years in garment manufacturing, has
grown far beyond its original shirt
and pyjama specialisation. Its renowned
Summit label has now been joined by
a big lineup of others – among
them being Klipper, Van Heusen and Pierre
Cardin – covering the entire garment
spectrum.
Gordon’s quest for the new management
software system led him to DDNC and
that company’s FABRIX, a wholly
New Zealand developed and written software
package.
“We required a system that was
not narrow in its application,”
he says. “There were a number
of special issues we wanted to achieve.
FABRIX has enabled us this versatility”.
Its versatility has also impressed David
Ambler, managing director of Ambler
& Co, particularly in regard to
the speed of response to queries and
information.
“We like to think that our systems
are user friendly,” says Gordon,
“and FABRIX certainly provided
this system.
Phil Jones at DDNC, says that “the
FABRIX management software tailored
for Ambler & Co includes programmes
for bar code scanning for production
performance bonuses and staff productivity
reporting, WIP, among many others.
“Integration of the FABRIX modules
from sales order through production,
through to general ledger and the ability
of DDNC to react quickly to Ambler’s
requests, all count toward a successful
relationship that is vital between a
system user and supplier.
